Oluwaseyi Awokunle | 8th July 2025

Nigeria has reaffirmed its position as the world’s leading cassava producer during the 2025 World Cassava Day, held recently at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.

The event brought together senior government officials, agribusiness executives, investors, development partners, and international stakeholders to celebrate the country’s cassava production milestone and chart the future of the value chain.

The event was organised in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agribusiness and Productivity Enhancement, under the Office of the Vice President.

The Group’s representatives were actively involved in panel discussions and strategy sessions focused on unlocking opportunities in the cassava value chain.

Topics included ways to attract investment, encourage industrial processing, and expand cassava-based exports, all aimed at boosting economic growth and enhancing food system resilience.

Stakeholders also explored pathways to improve food self-sufficiency, strengthen local content, and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported raw materials.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local production, building agricultural value chains, and promoting sustainable agribusiness development both in Nigeria and across the African continent.
