Ilorin is set to host a high-level conversation on Nigeria’s livestock sector, as former INEC Chairman and current Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Livestock Reform, Professor Attahiru Jega, arrived in the Kwara State capital ahead of a landmark lecture at the University of Ilorin.

Senator Saliu Mustapha, the lawmaker representing Kwara Central and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Production Services, will join him.

The lectures, scheduled for Monday, June 30, have been organised in his honour, recognising his role in driving forward agricultural policy and rural development across the country.

In a statement, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Adedoyin Jolaade Omede, said: “The choice of Senator Mustapha as the honouree reflects the faculty’s commitment to celebrating public figures whose work exemplifies integrity, impact, and visionary leadership.”

The Presidential Livestock Reform Programme, coordinated by Professor Jega, aims to introduce sustainable practices to address farmer-herder conflicts, boost productivity, and improve animal health services.

Experts believe this visit highlights Kwara’s growing role in agricultural innovation and policy influence.

The state is already known for its pilot programmes in agribusiness and youth training, making it a fitting location for discussions that could shape the future of livestock farming.

Professor Jega, a respected public intellectual, has been vocal about the need for reforms in agriculture.

His leadership on this new livestock agenda is part of President Tinubu’s efforts to improve food production and rural economies.
