Nigeria and Germany have finalised the agreement to establish grazing facilities in rural communities nationwide.
The agreement was finalised during a meeting between Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development, and a delegation led by Karin Jansen, First Secretary and Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The minister stated that the grazing facilities would be equipped with fodder production, micro earth dams, and boreholes to ensure all-year-round grazing for animals.
He noted that emphasis would be placed on pasture and breed production to enhance quality dairy products.
The initiative aims to promote sedentary livestock production systems and improve the livelihoods of livestock farmers.
Karin Jansen noted that the German Government is committed to deepening its partnership with Nigeria in livestock production and its value chain.
She underlined the significance of incorporating livestock development into initiatives to foster peace and offered her support for the proposed local government grazing reserves as a pilot location.
Additionally, the German Government proposed setting up demonstration ranches in important States to encourage contemporary livestock production techniques.
Nigeria and Germany’s collaboration is poised to positively impact the livestock sector, fostering food security and economic development.
This initiative aligns with a more overal lstrategy to support Nigerian livestock farmers and advance sustainable production practices.
