Plateau Governor Calls For Unity Over Fear In New Development Drive
Olamide Salau | 9th June 2025

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s focus on people-centred governance, stating that agriculture remains the most promising path for lifting Plateau residents out of poverty.

Speaking during a Pentecost Sunday service at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Jos, Mutfwang acknowledged the state’s ongoing security challenges but described them as distractions from what he views as the core issue, poverty.

“For us on the Plateau, insecurity remains a serious concern, but I have always maintained that it is a distraction. The core issue we must confront is poverty. Our focus is on lifting our people out of poverty, particularly through agriculture, which holds great promise for transformation,” Mutfwang said.

The governor noted that while insecurity continues to affect some communities, the real long-term solution lies in investing in economic sectors that directly impact the people, especially agriculture.

He assured citizens that his administration is committed to improving livelihoods and alleviating suffering through sustainable initiatives.

“We will continue to trust God as we strive to do our best in the service of Plateau State. We are fully aware of the difficulties people are facing… While not all of our efforts may yield immediate results, we are confident that we are on the right path by the grace of God,” he added.

Mutfwang also revealed plans to return missionary schools to their original owners to revive education standards in the state.

He praised St. Paul’s Academy for its academic excellence, especially after one of its students emerged as the second-best nationwide in the 2025 JAMB examination.

He called on citizens to support the government’s efforts, emphasising the importance of unity and shared responsibility in driving Plateau State forward.

During the church service, Bishop Ephraim J. Gongden of the Anglican Diocese of Jos encouraged Christians to live by the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

The Church leadership praised Mutfwang for implementing people-oriented programmes and pledged continued prayers and support for his administration.
