Nigeria’s push for agricultural innovation was boosted yesterday as a range of advanced farming equipment was showcased at an agrarian machinery exhibition in Bwari District, Abuja.

The event featured tractors and modern implements designed for difficult terrains, emphasising the growing role of mechanised farming in addressing food insecurity and increasing productivity.

A key event highlight was a field demonstration where one of the showcased tractors easily navigated a swampy and muddy area.

Observers were impressed by the machine’s performance, highlighting its potential for real-world application in Nigeria’s diverse farming conditions.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, represented by Engr. Hillary Aroboinosen, Director of Mechanisation, acknowledged the significance of such innovations, stating that mechanisation could play a crucial role in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

In a related announcement, Mr. Aminu Abdulkadri, National Chairman of the National Agricultural Mechanisation Cooperative Society of Nigeria (NAMCON), revealed a plan to establish mechanised agricultural centres in 528 local governments across the country.

This move is expected to democratise access to farming technology further and enhance nationwide food production.
