A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency to enhance smallholder farmers’ access to meteorological and climatic data throughout Nigeria.
Nimet’s media team announced this event on Wednesday, following the signing of an MOU at the agency’s headquarters.
“By signing a Memorandum of Understanding to expand agro-meteorological information delivery to smallholder farmers across Nigeria, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency has formalised its partnership with the Human and Environmental Development Agenda,” the statement partially states.
The new agreement builds on a collaborative relationship that began in 2010 and signals a renewed joint commitment to delivering timely, accessible climate data to rural communities.
Present at the signing ceremony were Sulaimon Arigbabu, Executive Secretary of HEDA Resource Centre, and Miss Tonye Dappa, Legal and Liaison Officer, who both expressed appreciation to NiMet’s Director-General and CEO, Professor Charles Anosike, for his ongoing support and leadership.
Anosike, the NiMet Boss, emphasised the need for collaboration to bridge the gap between climate science and grassroots action.
Additionally, he made the studio space at NiMet available for the co-creation of farmer-specific climate education materials.
The statement said that the partnership intends to increase national resilience to climate impacts, improve disaster preparedness, encourage sustainable agriculture, and increase access to climate information.
