The Community Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria (COMAFAS) and AA Divine Agro Farms Limited have partnered to ensure sustained production on a 6.5-hectare plantain plantation in Nasarawa State.
Dr. Austine Maduka, founder of COMAFAS, visited the farm to formally launch the collaboration with Isiaka Adamu Adamu, the managing director of AA Divine Agro Farms Limited, and they agreed on the terms of the agreement.
He says the farm was established to help Nigeria’s agricultural sector by generating employment and guaranteeing food supplies. Yet, due to financial difficulties, the farm encountered significant obstacles in achieving its goal.
The farm also has a fenced ranch for livestock, but the lack of a regular water supply hindered crop growth and livestock production. The absence of an access road also made it challenging to transport inputs and outputs, increasing costs and reducing efficiency. Limited management capacity also affected decision-making and resource allocation.
Notwithstanding these obstacles, AA Divine Farm has big plans. They envision a flourishing ranch, poultry pond, fish pond, and feed processing facility that will boost local economic growth, create jobs, and increase production.
Community Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria is dedicated to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture. COMAFAS saw potential in AA Divine Farm, which informed their proposal for a collaboration to overcome the challenges and achieve their goals,” says Dr Maduka
He added that AA Divine Farm is positioned to serve as a model for several farms in Nigeria with the support of COMAFAS. The cooperation aimed to increase local economic growth, improve food security, and increase productivity.
ProjectWatch and NICERT will offer technical assistance with data administration, monitoring, and assessment.
In principle, both sides have decided to sign the agreement this cropping season, opening the door to a revolutionary collaboration in Nigerian agriculture.
