In Baku on Monday, 12th April, the Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, Majnun Mammadov, and , the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in agricultural development.
The main objectives of the agreement are cooperation in agricultural investment, sharing of contemporary irrigation and electrification methods, cooperative research projects, and assistance for agribusinesses in both nations.
It is a component of Somalia’s larger plan to increase local food production by incorporating cutting-edge technology and foreign knowledge.
Minister Hayir and his group visited some of Azerbaijan’s top agricultural research facilities, including those focusing on soil science and agricultural chemistry. As a leader in agricultural innovation, Azerbaijan is anticipated to play a key role in initiatives to improve food security and revolutionise Somalia’s agricultural industry.
Due to their mutual desire to deepen their economic and scientific links, Somalia and Azerbaijan have seen increased diplomatic relations in recent years.
Azerbaijan has become a regional leader in agricultural technology and research, while Somalia works to reconstruct and modernise its agricultural industry.
The new collaboration aligns with Somalia’s objectives to increase food security, attract foreign investment, and promote sustainable farming methods, especially by implementing cutting-edge irrigation systems and research-based solutions.
