UNICEF First Foods Africa Initiative – Expression of Interest (EOI)

Summary

UNICEF is inviting African-owned food companies to express interest in joining the First Foods Africa (FFA) initiative to combat child food poverty by promoting nutritious, safe, affordable, and sustainable foods for young children (6–59 months). The program will run across 14 African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, etc.

Responsbilities

1. Access to capital and business advisory services

2. Technical support for food formulation and quality systems

3. Help with market penetration, policy alignment, and scaling impact

Requirements

1. Majority African-owned company based in one or more of the 14 focus countries

2. Producing or interested in producing healthy food for children

3. Prioritising local sourcing, gender inclusion, and youth employment

4 . Must not engage in the production of ultra-processed foods, alcohol, tobacco, etc.

5. Must adhere to UNICEF’s Principles of Engagement and exclusion criteria
