The Federal Government has committed to a strategic partnership with the Agricultural Farmers and Traders Development Association of Nigeria (AFTDAN) to improve the agricultural value chain, increase market accessibility, and promote sustainable farming methods.

Speaking on Wednesday, April 30th, in Abuja at the inauguration of AFTDAN’s Board of Trustees and members, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), characterised the association’s establishment as a welcome and timely step towards economic development and national food security.

Akume, represented by Alhaji Wada Nas, underscored the crucial role of farmers and traders in driving economic stability and job creation.

Also addressing the gathering, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, represented by Dr. Akanbi Olubunmi, hailed AFTDAN as a vital force in revitalising Nigeria’s agriculture, describing the sector as key to the nation’s prosperity.

In his remarks, AFTDAN National President Mr. Elijah Nze emphasised that the association was established as a non-governmental organisation to champion agricultural development and uplift the livelihoods of farmers and traders.

Alhaji Umar Faruk spoke on behalf of His Royal Majesty Dr. Adamu Yunusa, the Ona of Abaji, who emphasised the importance of rural agricultural development and called it the most reliable path to national advancement.

AFTDAN reiterated its dedication to collaborating with the government and interested parties to reduce hunger, protect farmers’ rights, and advance economic development through sustainable and inclusive projects.
