In 2024, the OCP Foundation improved its social and environmental impact across Africa, from Dakar to Dar es Salaam. The foundation focused on empowering people, promoting education, and supporting research to build a strong and independent continent.
Based of the Foundation’s most recent activity report, it supported 89,446 individuals in 13 African nations in 2024, demonstrating a significant reach. Women comprised most beneficiaries (48,784), highlighting the organisation’s dedication to gender equality. 221 varied projects carried out in close coordination with 281 partner universities were responsible for this impact. Among the major activities were reforestation of 590 hectares of land, better access to high-quality education, encouragement of women’s economic empowerment, and capacity building in research and technology development.
Following the Al Haouz earthquake in Morocco, the Foundation swiftly mobilised resources to ensure the continuity of education for affected communities. This included rehabilitating 436 school modules, modernising 263 classrooms, and building 100 essential restroom facilities. The Foundation also extended support to vulnerable groups, working with specialised organisations to provide care for 120 children with Down syndrome and 48 autistic children.
The OCP Foundation supported 153 research and technology transfer projects involving 612 researchers, nearly half women. These projects focused on important areas like agriculture, healthcare, and the energy sectors.
In 2024, the Foundation backed 306 cooperatives, benefiting 1,115 people, 71% of whom were women. It also provided training programs for 729 individuals. This effort aimed to strengthen local economies by promoting a strong cooperative model that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.
The OCP Foundation has increased its impact throughout the African continent and is noteworthy work in Morocco through specialised programs created to address particular local needs and settings. A joint project between UNESCO and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the “Imagining Africa’s Futures” program has helped several African countries improve their ability to plan for the future in innovation, technology, and scientific research.
At the same time, the Foundation has undertaken projects to protect important traditional knowledge and strengthen regional producers’ ability to withstand setbacks. These support the sustainable and equitable growth of regional ecosystems throughout the continent.
The OCP Foundation is becoming an important force for positive change globally. Through its strategic partnerships, flexibility in a variety of local contexts, and strong community ties, it balances social, environmental, and economic imperatives to ensure a more sustainable future for Africa.
