Katsina Governor Dikko Umar Radda has called for the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and Katsina State Government to work together more closely to promote agricultural transformation throughout the nation, particularly in the North.
He made this request when Governor Radda paid a courtesy call to NADF Executive Secretary Muhammad Abu Ibrahim at the Fund’s Abuja headquarters.
The governor congratulated Ibrahim on his appointment, describing him as a capable leader poised to transform the Fund and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“He is our ambassador here, and I believe he has what it takes to transform this place for the benefit of Nigerians. I am not here to ask him to work for Katsina alone; he is here to serve the entire federation, and I know he will make us proud,” Radda said.Radda explained that the visit was intended to offer goodwill and explore strategic partnerships that would boost agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods in Katsina State.
Highlighting that over 90% of Katsina’s population is engaged in agriculture or agribusiness, he emphasised the need for targeted investment to empower rural communities and tackle poverty.

“In Katsina, we are investing heavily in agriculture because it is the most direct way to touch the people’s lives,” he stated.
“Last year alone, we spent over N21 billion to procure more than 400,000 bags of fertiliser, which we distributed across all polling units in the state. We also established an Agricultural Development Programme Unit to streamline interventions from development partners and other agencies”, he noted.
The governor summarised Katsina’s current agricultural projects, which include establishing the first irrigation authority in the state, encouraging smart and climate-resilient farming methods, providing solar-powered irrigation pumps, and opening agricultural mechanisation centres in each of the 34 local government districts.
