Eight communities in Zamfara State have received improved groundnut seedlings for cluster farming from the Nigerian Export Promotion Council’s (NEPC) Zamfara State coordinating office in Gusau.
The groundnut seedlings intervention for farmers in Zamfara state included a distribution activity on Wednesday in Rawayya town, located in the Bungudu local government area.
Speaking during the formal distribution of seedlings, the Zamfara State coordinator of NEPC, Alhaji Yusuf Ismail, disclosed that the new, improved groundnut seed has a brand name, Samnuts 24.
“There are types of groundnut seeds comprising 21 and 22, but now a new and improved seedling named Samnuts 24 is the best for groundnut farmers.
“The aim of NEPC is to have a groundnut cluster farming with improved product at the end of the harvest.
“We want the improved groundnut seed Samnuts 24 to be the same for all the farmers in the community at the end of the harvest. We believe that the product (groundnuts) will be marketable for export,” he stated.
In addition, the Zamfara State NEPC Coordinator explained that their goal is to identify customers for the best products following harvest and suggested that the local groundnut farmers organise into an association.
