Egypt says it would increase cooperation with the United Nations to improve its agriculture industry.
Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, revealed this at a meeting with Elena Panova, the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt.
According to the Daily News Egypt, a TV BRICS partner, the conference will focus on improving cooperation between the ministry and UN agriculture organisations.
Farouk underlined the significance of engaging the Egyptian and African business sectors to improve continental commerce, investment, and food security.
Panova, for her part, presented the UN-Egypt collaboration framework for 2023-2027, which includes five major sectors.
They encompass climate and resource sustainability, education, health, migration, etc.
She pledged to increase cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture to promote long-term agricultural development and food security.
Following the meeting, the two sides decided to hold ministerial negotiations with African countries led by Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture.
These meetings will bring representatives from relevant UN agencies and the private sector in chosen African nations.
The goal is to build new collaboration structures and boost private sector investment, consistent with Egypt’s more considerable attempts to strengthen ties with African countries.
Egypt also confirmed its willingness to share its agricultural research knowledge with African countries, with the assistance of UN institutions working in these areas.
