In collaboration with the Jigawa state government, Mahony Energy and Power is building a fully automated, self-sufficient agricultural hub to significantly expand the state’s agro-allied industry, improve food security, and spur economic growth.

Because the project will be carried out through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the partnership is anticipated to create 100,000 direct jobs and 120,000 indirect jobs, reducing poverty and stimulating the economy. To ensure the initiative’s success, partnerships with universities, research institutions, and foreign investors will be necessary.

Speaking in Jigawa recently during an official visit to the governor of the state, Malam Umar Namadi, the managing director of the company, Musa Suleiman, stated that the project, which was tagged JIGAWA Agricultural City (JAC), spans the proposed 50,000 hectares of land dedicated to agricultural production, livestock farming, and aquaculture.

Suleiman stated that 21,000 hectares will be dedicated to high-value crops such as rice, cassava, yams, plantains, and pineapples. In comparison, 10,000 hectares will be dedicated to livestock and fish farming, with 500,000 cows, 1 million goats, 3 million sheep, and 5 million fish. Modern processing and packaging facilities will ensure high-quality output that meets market demands.

“In addition to agricultural activities, the project includes significant infrastructure development, featuring roads, bridges, utilities, housing, recreational parks, five-star hotels, schools, hospitals, and a commercial city centre. These developments aim to enhance living standards and create a vibrant economic ecosystem,” Suleiman stated.
