The Benue State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources has commended the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project for its significant contributions to sustainable land management and agricultural development across the state.
On Monday, March 10, 2025, Hon. Shimawua Terna, the committee chairman, paid a courtesy call to Bldr. Victor Ama, the State Project Coordinator (SPC), at his Makurdi office, where he offered the commendation. The visit, which was carried out as part of the committee’s oversight role, helped members gain a clearer understanding of the goals and effects of the ACReSAL project in Benue State.
In his remarks, Bldr. Victor Ama outlined the project’s mission of promoting sustainable land management practices in targeted watersheds across Benue State and Northern Nigeria, ultimately aiming to improve the livelihoods of local communities.
“We are committed to enhancing the adoption of sustainable management practices to ensure long-term agricultural resilience and environmental sustainability,” Ama stated.
He discussed the several interventions ACReSAL has carried out nationwide, highlighting the improvements already seen in various places. He urged the committee members to take ownership of the ACReSAL project sites in their various constituencies and to motivate their constituents to participate actively in the project.
Hon. Ochekliye Agbo Isaac, Hon. Dugeri Thomas, and Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako was among the committee members who expressed gratitude for the project’s extensive influence. They recognised the apparent advancements in environmental preservation initiatives and farming methods throughout the state. The legislators also praised ACReSAL’s contribution to Benue State’s agricultural landscape and sustainable development.
