Atinuke | 12th March 2025

The Edo State Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), led by Miss Sally Suleiman, has launched the Plant, Nurture, Eat – Edo Girls’ Farm Project in honour of International Women’s Day. The project aims to empower young girls with practical agricultural training.

The project seeks to develop participants’ self-sufficiency, patience, and responsibility while imparting functional farming skills.

Additionally, it supports the state’s larger objectives of improving food security and fostering environmental sustainability.

The program started under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration and was consistent with his SHINE Agenda, emphasising agriculture as a significant force behind economic development and growth.

The project supports important UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as Gender Equality (SDG 5), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Zero Hunger (SDG 2), while also empowering young girls through farming.

Through the Plant, Nurture, Eat initiative, Edo State aims to secure a more food-sufficient future while providing young girls with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the agricultural sector. It also highlights the state’s commitment to sustainable farming practices and the development of future female leaders in agribusiness.
