Rep proposes agric institute in Edo
Atinuke | 11th March 2025

Nigerian agricultural education, research, and economic prosperity are the goals of a proposed bill to establish a Federal College of Agriculture, Ebele, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, on Thursday. The institution will expand knowledge in several agricultural disciplines essential to the industry’s growth to become a teaching and research facility.

According to Marcus Onobun, the member representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, Edo State, the college will be vital in tackling the issues confronting the country’s agriculture sector. The university is anticipated to provide specific courses that give students the know-how and abilities required to promote sustainable agricultural development.

The proposed institution is anticipated to be a tool for youth empowerment in addition to its academic and research advantages. The measure’s sponsor claims that by involving young people in fruitful academic and research endeavours, the institution will lessen restlessness and discourage participation in endeavours that could have a detrimental effect on society.

The senator also encouraged federal lawmakers to back the bill, emphasising how it may lead to job opportunities for Nigerians as support workers, administrative staff, and academics. Additionally, the college’s operations are expected to boost economic activity in the host community.

The congressman reaffirmed the community’s support for the project by saying, “The people of Ebele are excited about this initiative and have generously provided a large expanse of land for the construction of the college.”

If approved by legislation, the construction of the College of Agriculture in Ebele might be a major step towards bolstering Nigeria’s agricultural industry and promoting regional and national economic growth.
